New 1st day of school style.

Today was the first day of 1st grade, and since Ryne was going into a new grade and she had a new dress she wanted a new hair style. I actually saw a style in a magazine that I liked but added to it to make it work with my daughters hair.

Start by doing an exaggerated part to one side. You will have 2 sections in the front and 1 in the back.

Starting on one of the front sections twist the hair, twisting it all the way to the ends, secure with an elastic. Repeat to the other front section.

I forgot to take a pic of this next step, but pull all the hair (including the twists) back into a loose ponytail. Once you have the pony tail stick your finger between the head and elastic and pull the hair down through, should look like this;

Take the remaining hair and wrap it around your fingers. (this part is the part I saw in the magazine)

See the hair between my fingers, pull that to the center of your bun, secure with a bobby pins.

This is the finished product.

We added a bow for fun.

It looks complicated and like it took a long time but it only takes about 10 mins.

Here's a front shot, she got lots of compliments about her hair, but the best part is that it stayed in for all of school!! So there it is hope ya like it.

Baldy

My son decided to give himself a haircut.

What do ya think!? Yeah we didn't like it either so we ended up with this:

We lovingly call him "baldy" now.

He wasn't happy about it at first, he definitely regretted that he cut his hair and promised he would never do it again. I hope he can keep that promise.

At least he is a boy and shaving his head was an easy fix, plus we live in Arizona and it's getting hot, he fits right in!

Monday Styles

I know I have been HORRIBLE with posting new styles lately(and by lately I mean the last 2 yrs!), most of it's been due to some of us(yes I'm the guilty one) sleeping in resulting in no time for new styles or if by the off chance there is a new one there is no time for picture taking! Monday's however are a little better, for starters it's late start day my daughter doesn't have to be to the bus till 9:30 so we are up with plenty of time to do hair! So I am going to make a goal of posting a new style every Monday (and some weekends).

To start us off we are having our family pictures done on the 19th so I have been playing around with some styles.

I didn't take step by step shots but it was really simple, all I did was separate a front section of hair. Then starting on one side I french braided it only I didn't pick up hair from both sides just one leaving it raised and creating a kinda crown on her head.

Here you can kinda see the braid. Oh yeah and that is the flower she will be wearing for pics.

Then I just curled the rest of it with of curling iron.

Star Burst Hair bow.

My mom gave me this gift bow, she thought I might want to try to make a hair bow like it. I've had it since May!! I decided today would be the day to pull it apart and make one for hair.

Things you'll need:

Felt

scissors

hot glue gun

hair clips

1. Start by cutting 7 circles, 3 large (4in), 2 medium (3in), 2 small (2)

2. Take one circle fold in half then in half again, then trace or freehand the design of your petal. (This one was a stair step with a point kinda thing)

3. Carefully cut out each circle, once you've cut it out cut 1/3 of the way down the folds. DO NOT cut all the way to the point.

4. When you open them up make 2 little slits on either side of the petal, do this to all 4 petals. Again DO NOT cut all the way through.

5. Fold one side of petal in, put a bead of glue then fold the other side over.

I used a hair clip to hold it till the glue set.
This is what your circles should look like.
6. Start layering your petals, alternating which way they go so all spaces are covered.
Fluff it up a bit and your done, you could put a bead in the middle but I liked mine plain.
7. Glue a small circle of felt on the back to make it stronger, then glue it to a hair clip or head band.

Just remember to pull all the glue stringy's off BEFORE ya take any pictures!!

I thought it turned out pretty good, you can make it smaller or bigger by making more circles. Play with it there are many many possibilities!

Right french braid into left side pony tail

1) Make a part down the middle, go as far as the crown of the head. French braid the right section to the crown then finish braiding to the end of the hair.
2) Comb the left section into a side pony tail and bring the braid across and secure with an elastic.
3)It's hard to tell but I braided the side pony tail and made a bun, I let the ends stick out for that messy look.
Add an accessory, and your good to go.

Originally this style was going to be 2 french braids brought into pig tails but my fingers just didn't want to braid one side, and we ran out of time so I improvised. I thought it turned out really good and she looked really cute at her school assembly where she got student of the month award!

Finally a hair style!!

When I did my daughters hair this morning she pointed out that I haven't been taking pictures of it anymore. I told her I hadn't really been into it lately and she told me to go get the camera so I did. This style isn't anything grand but it's cute and it was quick and easy. I didn't take step by step pictures, but if there's any confusion just let me know and I can do step by step.

1) Start by making an exaggerated part, go to about the crown of the head, like so.

2) Pull the side pieces down and secure with elastic, then pull them back into a pony tail.
3)Once you have your pony tail take a small section of hair, then divide it into 2 sections, then twist both pieces to the left. Take your left twisted piece and cross it over your right piece, continue all the way down, always crossing left over right, this creates your twist, secure each twist with an elastic. I made 4 twists.
4) I took one of the twists and circled it around the pony tail covering the elastic, and secured it with bobby pins.
And that's it, and easy, simple yet cute pony tail. Back view

Curly or straight?

I use to have beautiful natural curly hair. I absolutely loved it at least as an adult as a teenager I didn't care for it to much! Anyway it was so easy to manage and if I was in a hurry all I had to do was spray and scrunch, but after I had my 3rd baby my curl decided to be curly no more. That's why I decided to cut it short, if I'm gonna blow dry it I want it to be fairly quick. Anyway yesterday I decided to try something different and let it dry naturally then I curled some little sections with a curling iron. It didn't take very long and it turned out cute, I got several comments on it, someone even said they couldn't decide if they liked it curly or straight better! That made me feel good and it was nice to have curly hair again.

When I got up this morning I thought the curl would be gone or it would be super frizzy but it wasn't. I just sprayed it with a little hair spray separated some of the curls and this was my result..It was nice to not have to re- straighten it (something usually have to do daily). My hubby doesn't usually notice(or care) how I style my hair so I was pleasantly surprised when he asked if I was going to style it like this more! That is the best compliment a girl can get!!

I am in Idaho visiting my parents for the summer, it has been so much fun. My mom took me and my girls out for a day at the Salon, Ryne got her hair cut I got a cut, color and some high lights Ellie just watched! We had a blast, Thank you Grandma J.

I had all the red stripped out of my hair, I decided to go back to my natural color of light brown with blond highlights, I love it, it turned out so nice. Here's a side view...Front, sorry these aren't the best pictures, they are from my phone. I finally got a new camera but I have to get a memory card for it, so until then my phone pics will have to do!
I didn't get any pics of Ryne, she really just got a trim cause she wants "to keep it short awhile".

So I apologize for not posting new hair styles, I actually have a few I would love to post but my camera decided that it was time to not work any more. So I am looking to get a new one, I am researching and hoping to find one that will last me longer than 2 yrs that seems to be how long the ones in the past work, we are also saving up for it as well which will take a couple of months. So be patient I will be back with more styles.

I got my kids school pictures today!!So this is my daughters I realized while looking at this picture how much I miss her pretty long hair *sniff*sniff. But I also realized this is a perfect before picture, cause the day after this was taken was the day she decided to go through with the "self hair cut". Even though it is curled a little, you still get the idea of how long it was.

Oh well it's just hair it will grow back! :)

New Hair Cut

We finally got Ryne's hair cut on Tuesday, I didn't think to take a before picture but to give ya an idea of how long her hair was they took off 4 1/2 inches! So these are the best pictures I could get of the "self hair cut"...
Why do they always go for the front!?
She took chunks out of the rest of her hair as well, I just didn't get a pic of that the front was the worst of it.
And on to the hair cut. We went with a cute bob, the style looks really cute on her and she really loves it and that's all that matters.
And the front. I am still trying to some up with come cute styles that stay put, as soon as I figure some out I will post them.

Back, not back

Ok so I have been without my computer since the 18th of February, and now I am finally back!! It's good to be back, but I probably won't be posting many styles, ya see my daughter decided that she wanted short hair and so she did a self hair cut! She cut the front pretty much down to the scalp, and then she just took chucks from the rest of it. She has been wanting short hair for a long time now, she just got tired of waiting I guess, I will be taking her in to see what can be down to blend it, and I am not sure how much hair we are going to have to play with. But stay tuned.

Diagonal Dutch braid

YEAH!! A new hair style ;) This is is really easy.

1) Do a diagonal part, from one side of the head to the other, ending just behind the ear on the opposite side, like this;

2) Do a dutch braid on the front section of hair. I did a chunky dutch braid by taking bigger sections of hair, you can do whatever you want, it just depends on the look ya want and also how much time ya have, also you can braid all the way to the end of the hair if you want I didn't. So this is what it should look like so far;3) Then pull half of the remaining hair into a pony tail make sure to include the braid. You can leave it, or you can curl it like we did add a bow and your done. Front shot.

After school today we are going to go get some family pictures done, and since I won't have time between getting Ryne from school and driving to where the pictures will be taken to curl her hair I decided to curl it before school, I figure I can handle a few touch ups. I love simple and elegant for pictures, ya don't want to get get to fancy or all people will notice is the hair and not your beautiful little girl!

1. First I did an exaggerated side part. I then French Braided the section, instead of pulling small sections of the hair up I took BIG chunky sections creating a looser and more full braid. You can do what you want depending on the look you want.

2. Then I took my small curling iron and just curled the rest of her hair and I haired sprayed it to death. Here's hoping it will last until picture time!This won't be the bow she is wearing for the pictures but it needed something.

Indian braids

I don't know about you, but my mom use to put my hair in Indian braids all the time when I was a little girl, and it seems to be really popular now. This style is the basic Indian braid but changed up a little, I saw this on a blog awhile ago I would love to give that person credit but I have know clue who it was. I like the little change, it helps to keep the shorter hair in the front back in the braid. I do love this style it is really quick, it's great when your in a hurry or ya just don't really feel like being super creative, this is also a good style for camping.

1. Part the hair down the middle, secure one side out of the way while you work with the other side.

2. Part a small front section of hair and braid, you can do any kind of braid you want, French braid, dutch braid, fish bone braid, or even twisting it work well with this style. I did a dutch braid, braid down as far as you can.
3. Take the back section of hair and braid it like you would with an Indian braid adding the front braid like this...
This is what it should look like, when you have it done. Do steps 1-3 on the other side and your done. Back.Front. Hope ya enjoy.

"Princess bump"

I can never find my camera when I need it! I was half way through this style when Ryne reminded me where daddy put the camera, so no step by step pics for this one but no worries it's VERY VERY easy and super cute.

1. Start by parting the hair down the middle, secure one side while you work with the other.

Divide the section into 3 sections.

2. Instead of doing this style down the back of the head, we are going to do it up the head. With that said start with the section closets to the base of the head, pull into a smooth pony tail put in elastic, then separate hair under elastic and then pull the hair through, tighten. The hair from the pony should be pointing up towards her forehead not down towards the neck. Repeat this step one more time on the same side then do it again on the other. This is what it should look like.3. Grab the sections from both sides, pull into a pony tail and tuck under like ya did the rest of the hair, then pull the hair back creating a "bump" secure with bobby pins.

I hair sprayed the cascading hair that was left with hair spray and scrunched it, added a flower and wa la done!

Braid Puff and Giveaway!

So after being encouraged by friends and stopped by strangers I have decided to sell my hair bows on Etsy! And to kick it off I am going to be doing a giveaway, it's my very first one and I am excited really I am BURSTING with joy!! The giveaway will start on Monday, that way I have some time to get everything set up and decided how I want to do the giveaway, so stay tuned for more info on that!

Now onto today's hair style. I didn't take step by step pictures cause I couldn't find my camera! I did find my camera AFTER I was all done with the hair, and the pictures I managed to take are kinda blurry, so I apologize. I'm not sure why they are blurry I will have to mess with my camera and figure it out.

1.Start by parting hair just in front of the ears, so you have a front section, then separate that section into 3 sections and French braid each section, this is what the braids should look like.

2. Once the braids are done, part a section of hair out just behind the braided section (just behind the ears). Comb it smooth, to get the poof I took a small sock rolled it up and stick it under the section of hair, then pulled the braids back and secured with an elastic. 3. Here you can see the pink sock sticking out, I just put a bow over it to cover it, or you can smooth the hair over and secure with a bobby pin.
4. Curl the back and add a bow (if you want to). And your done. :)

Crazy bow and Etsy?

So I saw this new kind of bow, I have actually seen it around a lot and I finally decided to try it out. I have heard it called many names, pom pom bows, rag bows, I think I will just call it a crazy bow,cause you can get really crazy with it. I really like it, it was really fun to make and the possibilities with it are endless, I actually made this one for a friend, I made one for Ryne that's a little bigger I will have to post it later.

So I have been thinking about selling my bows on etsy again if I have enough interest, so if you or anyone you know would be interested in buying my bows let me know by leaving a comment. Thanks.:)

Princess Leia buns with a "twisty"

So I am officially back now with some new styles. Ryne wanted "two wisty ponwe tails". I was originally just going to pull them into pigtails then twist into buns, but she had something else in mind! I had her describe and show me what she wanted, it took a few minutes to finally come up with something that even remotely looked like what she described, but she was happy with it. So here it is:

1. Start by parting the hair into 2 sections, like your going to do pigtails.

2. Take 1/2 of the hair and pull out a small section of hair from the front, like so:3. Then divide it into 2 section and then twist them together, like this:4. So the same thing to the back, pull out a little section and twist. 5. Bring all the pieces together into a ponytail making sure the "twisty's" are on top. Then twist the ponytail. This is what you should have at this point:6. Then wrap the "twisty" loosely around the pony tail, you should have a bun of some sorts secure it with bobby pins. Repeat steps 2-6 on the other side then your done! Front shot, see she is so happy with her style. She was so proud that she made it up herself, I will have to have her come up with a name for it.:)

I apologize for not posting anything in awhile. I have been quite busy with making Halloween costumes and planning a Halloween party, but that's not why I haven't posted, my computer isn't allowing me to download pictures on it, my husband is trying to figure out what the problem is, we just keep getting these error messages saying that the computer can download, but no explanations as to why we can't download pictures. So until we get this figured out I won't be posting any new styles and I have quite a few, I will still take pictures of all the new ones I do and post them when I can.

Yesterday was picture day at my daughters school and I have to say she looked adorable, my son looked really good too(at least when he left the house, who knows how he looked for the pictures!). I will be sure to post the pictures when I get them, I can scan those so I think that should be fine. Anyway I apologize again for not having any new styles.

Wishbone

I actually dreamed about this style!! I know it's crazy that I dream about hair!! Anyway in my dream it was my older sisters hair that I did and it was much longer than Ryne's.

1)Start by parting the hair into 3 sections, 2 front sections and 1 back section like this...
2) Do a french style dutch braid with one of the front sections of hair, then repeat to the other side. So you should have 2 braids about half way down her head like this.3) wrap a small section of hair around the elastic and secured it with a bobby pin.4) Bring the 2 sections of hair you have left from the braids together divided it into 3 sections, then continue doing your french style dutch braid grabbing hair from the 3rd section.
This is what you should have when you are done. Now in my crazy dream I braided the hair all the way to the ends and tucked it under and secured with a bobby pin. Ryne's hair is to short to do that so this is what I ended up doing.

Blog worthy?

When I came up with this style I didn't think that it was blog worthy so, I didn't take step by step pictures, once I got done with it I decided it was cuter than I thought it was gonna be!! I will try and explain how I did it the best I can, if any one wants step by step pics let me know and I will take some and add them later.
1) I started by parting it like the zig zag dutch braid I did yesterday. Then take the small front section and twist it back, secure with an elastic.

2) Pull the rest of the hair back into a pony tail, take the remaining hair from the front twist and twist it back into the pony tail, secure with an elastic. Separate the pony tail into 2 sections then twist them together secure with an elastic, then pull the twist around the pony tail like a bun and secure with bobby pins.Hopefully ya understand all that, if ya have any questions let me know. Let me know if you think this style was blog worthy or not, don't worry I won't be offended. :)

On a side note I got my hair cut and colored, it's hard to see the color but it's red, I will have to get some better pictures of it later, it's hard when your tryin to do it yourself!!

Zig Zag Dutch Braid

There's no rhyme or reason for this style I was just playin around with some ideas and I thought this was kinda cool.

1) Part the hair down the middle like this..2) Part off a small front section, then do a french style dutch braid all the way to the ends.

3) Take the section that's behind the front section and come it back, then do another dutch braid pulling in the first braid you did, braid all the way to the ends then repeat to the other side.

Once both sides are done bring the ends together and secure with an elastic, then add a bow.

Bottom Band

I have been playing around with these kind of headbands and creating ways to help keep them in, it was mentioned to me that the problem with this kind of headband isn't so much keeping the front from sliding back but keeping the back from sliding up and popping off, this is one thing you can do that seems to remedy the problem.

I parted a small section in the front of her head and did a uneven 3 strand braid. Ya don't have to do this first braid if you don't want to Ryne just wanted a braid.

Then I pulled the hair into a loose pony tail and pulled a small amount of hair out like this...Put the headband in place.Pull a small section of hair out just above the headband like so...Combine the sections together, then separate into 3 sections like this, then do a small french braid across the back of the headband, making sure to grab sections from the top and bottom, once you get across secure with an elastic. In this case I did not braid all the way to the ends.This is what it should look like. Take out your pony tail and let the hair hang down. I secured the top braid to a small section of hair, Ryne didn't like it swinging around. I curled the ends of her hair "out"and then put in a bow. Side shot.And your "ALL DONE!!" Uneven 3 strand braids in a pony tail.

Yesterday the gal over at Babes in Hair Land did a style done with an uneven 3 strand braid, I loved the way it looked, I had never seen it before so I went over to her sight and learned how to do the braid and decided I would do my own style with it today.

1) Make and exaggerated side part, them part from ear to ear, like this. Start with the section with the least amount of hair do the Uneven 3 strand braid.

2) Divided the section that has more hair in half, then do the Uneven braid with the top half. Once the braids are done set them aside then pull the rest of the hair together in a pony tail add the braids before securing with an elastic.

I just left the pony tail as it was but you could continue the braid, or put it in a bun, whatever you like use your imagination.

So I seem to be having an UN lucky day today, first let me give ya a little back story, Ryne lost one of my contacts and it was the last pair I had, so I have been wearing my 6 yr old won't even stay on my face if I look down glasses, until I could get in to see my Dr. Well this morning as I was doing Ryne's hair I made the mistake of looking down, my glasses slid off my face and since my hands were full of hair I didn't catch them, they landed in the sink the lens and the screw popped out, I found both but as I was trying to repair them blindly(I am literally legally blind without my glasses)I dropped them and lost the black screw in my black carpet!! So you may be wondering how I am writing this post if I am blind the answer would be I still have 1 good contact and I have no other choice but to wear it. I just thought the was kinda a funny story just wanted to share. Oh yeah I called the Dr. office to let them know my situation and they are going to give me a trial pair until I can get in to see the Dr. Yeah so by this afternoon I should have both my eyes back. ;)

Tiny Braids Pony Tail

Sometimes I like a good old fashioned pony tail, Ryne looks really cute with a pony tail but she still has a lot of short hair in the front and by the end of the day most of her hair is in her face, which kinda defeats the purpose of a pony tail. Today I decided to just do some small braids in the front to hold all the short hair together.

1) Start by pulling out a small amount of hair going all around her head like this........

2) Separate into smaller sections and braid, I did 7 braids all together I did NOT do the braids all the way around her head, just until about the back of her ear like this...

3)Once you have finished the braids, pull them aside out of the way and gather the rest of the hair with an elastic pulling it into a pony tail and securing with an elastic, then pull the braids back and add then to the pony tail, I just secured them with another elastic.

I left the back section out because this hair falls out anyway, so I just sprayed it with water and scrunched it a little. You can pull this hair up into the pony, or you could braid it and then add it to the pony tail.

I curled the ends of her pony tail under.Add a cute flower and your done!!We will see how well this held up when she gets home from school.:)

Head band and Dutch Braid

Ryne LOVES headbands but they always slide backwards so I came up with this style to remedy the problem.

1) Part a front section of hair from about the middle of one ear over to the other, then start on the far side and do a Dutch braid (the braid will go from ear to ear), once the braid is done secure with an elastic, then put on the headband and let the other hear down, curl the ends and that's it.

Sorry about the crappy pictures my settings got changed and I didn't realize it till later. I am sure ya get the idea though. :)

Polka dot flower hair!

Isn't this the cutest fabric flower!? Another hair blog feature it they learned how to make it from another blog, I can't remember which hair blog I got it from so I am really sorry, I will look for it and see if I can get the link, but if any of you know were this was featured let me know. Ok so I made this flower to go with a shirt that I made my daughter, this is the style we did nothin super fancy.

1) Start parting a front section (my part went to the back of the ears.) Once that is done part that section into 3 sections.

2) French braid each section, once they are all done gather the braids and the remaining hair and secure with an elastic, the braid the pony tail, secure with an elastic. Now you can leave it like that or you can do what I did and tuck the braid under the elastic, then add a bow or flower or some other fun creation.

Puff Braid Halo with Ribbon

On Sunday Ryne wanted a "fancy all up hair do with NO hair on mines neck" and I remembered a style I saw over by Jen over at GirlyDo'sbyJen she did a French Braid Halo that I loved and have been wanting to try, but we were running and little late for church so I decided to do a puff braid halo instead, it turned out really cute.There aren't any step by step pictures ( I really need to work on that) by the time I remember to take pictures I am already done with the style, but this is VERY easy.

1) Start by parting down the middle like you are going to do pig tails, secure ones side out of the way. Take the side you are going to work with and divide it into 3 sections, then I started with the upper left section put it into a pony tail then set it off to the side, then take the next section smooth it how you want then add the pony tail from the last section then continue all the way around the head. You can do a high halo or a low halo, I did a low halo so I kept all of the pony tails down by the hairline. Once you go all the way around, secure the last of the hair by overlapping it with the beginning pony tail and that's it easy peasy! If you would like to put ribbon in like I did take a LARGE quilting needle and 1/4in ribbon and weave it in how ever you want then secure it.

There are so many things you can do with this style to pretty it up. When doing the ribbon you can end it in the back and leave the rest of your ribbon hanging, or you could put flowers all the way around it, baby's breath also looks really cool in a style like this use your imagination.

Many people that complimented on this style thought that it had taken me a long time to do, I just smiled and said thanks, they have no clue that it only took about 10 mins!!

Twisty Pig tails Messy buns.

1) Start by parting a front section of the hair ( I parted from the back of each ear), then part that section in half.

2) Starting with one of the half sections part in half again, then do a twist or rope french style with one section secure it with an elastic, then do it with the other section, once that is done combine the 2 sections and secure with an elastic. Do this to the other side of the head.

3)Continue your middle part all the way down to the nap of the neck pull one side into pony tail catching the twists then do a messy bun, do the same thing to the other side and then add some bows if desired.

I feel like I am constantly apologizing for the lack of pictures, this time my batteries died and I didn't get new ones till today so I am reallly really sorry that I only have 2 pictures, if ya have any questions let me know.

Braid Buns and Mini Diva Giveaway!!

I usually plan my daughter's hair around the clothes that she is going to wear, today she decided to wear this simple kind of old fashioned shirt I made her. The fabric it's made out of reminds me of pioneers, so I decided we needed to come up with a braided up do and we have also been into doing buns lately so this is what I came up with.

1)Start by parting the hair down the middle, like you are gonna do pig tales secure one side with elastic while working with other side.

2)The take a side and section that into 3 triangular sections. You can see it in the picture. Then french braid each section from the bottom up so that the hair is piled on top of the head. Secure with elastic.Then braid the pony tale and wrap it around making a bun and secure with bobby pins. Repeat to the other side.

That's it your done it took me about 20 mins to do this style and it turned out really cute. Once I was done I added some ribbon and a couple of clips.

I love braids because they hold all the hair back out of her face and they last through lots of rough housing and play.

Angled dutch braid

This is really easy to do it's just a dutch braid I started on the left side and angled it to over to the right side, sorry no step by step pictures, I didn't think about it till I was already done. if ya need a refresher for the braid click here Dutch braid.

I braided till it was just behind her right ear, then I secured it with an elastic, curled the ends and added a bow it's that simple. It took me about 10 mins to do.

Ryne had some hair that wasn't quite long enough to go in the braid so I just left it out and curled it. You can pull it to the side and combine with the braid.

I just learned to make this bow and I have to say it is my favorite (at least at the moment).

Side braid.

Ok so this is the style I did on Ryne's hair before it was cut it's really simple.

1) First pull all the hair from one side of the head to the other, like your going to do a side pony tail. I pulled from the left to the right.

2) Then make a front part going from the side you pulled the hair from (mine was from the left) and take it all the way around the head to the other ear. Then do a dutch braid with this new section.

3) Once I got around to the other side I secured it with an elastic then I pulled all the hair together into a low side pony tail and then braided it. You can do a messy bun or even just curl the ends if you wanted to instead of braiding it, no matter what ya do it looks cute. So that's it simple and easy but pretty.

Broken promise

So yesterday I promised I would do a tutorial on the style I did yesterday, but I can't Ryne got her hair cut and it's to short, but I do have some pics of it, they aren't step by step but you can get the gist, I PROMISE I will post them tomorrow. Anyway I will show ya Ryne's cute hair cut, It's shorter than I would have like but ya know what it isn't my hair so I figured I would let her decided how short to cut it ( I did cross the line at I want to look like daddy!). She did so good, she sat still and did everything that was asked of her and she got a lolly pop when she was all done! So here it is.

And after...Seriously if we hadn't been in a room full of people I probably would have cried at how short it was looking. I know I know it's just hair and it will grow back, and really it's not that short, but for me it is.

Back all flipped out cute. I just blow dried it flipping out the ends then I went over them with a curling iron.

I have been very busy sewing for my daughter, so I haven't been doing any new styles. I am finally done with the sewing and today we did a little fashion show, and I did her hair so tomorrow I will do a tutorial on it, it turned out really cute and it is pretty easy. Front Side braid

Last night I was flippin the channels and came across a re-run of Medium one of my favorite shows ever, anyway the oldest daughter of Allison, Ariel had a really cute and simple hair style, so I decided to try it.

1. Start by parting the hair in the middle, then I parted a small section on the left side of her head to about the back of her ear......like this.

2. Do a basic french braid.
On the show Ariel's hair had big loose curls, since Ryne's hair didn't want to cooperate with me today I just straight ironed it, but it looks so much better if it is curled. But that's it not much too it, simple but cute.

Braids Galore!

I decided to take a break from the basics today. I was playing with Ryne's hair trying to come up with some styles for our ward camp out that is coming up, I want her to look cute but I want her hair to be back out of her face. I took lot's of pictures too, so it should be pretty easy and it will help the beginners to practice the french braid!

1. Divide the hair from the top of the forehead to the nape of the neck, and then dived that section into 3 sections like this.

2.Start with french braiding the front section braid all the way to the ends.
3. Then start on the middle section this time when you have no more hair to grab pull in the braid from the front section like so..
4. Braid all the way to the end.
5. Can ya guess what to do next!? Yup french braid the 3rd section pulling the braid from the last one and continue to braid till the ends. Then do it to the other side.
6. Then I tucked the braids under the opposite side, it should look like this. You can add a bow to hide the rubber band. That's it, it's super cute and it hold up really well.
It creates it's own braid on the side and it goes all the way around the head, I love it and so did my daughter. She said that it was a princess style and that she couldn't wait to go camping now!

Underbraid aka Dutch braid.

This is one of my favorite braids. A friend of mine did it on her little girls hair and I fell on love with it. I had no idea how to do it and I remembered a braiding book that my mom got back in 1991 it has step by step instructions so I pulled it out and learned how to do it.

Its called an underbraid for a reason, the outside strands are always crossed under creating a raised look.

1. You are going to make a triangular section at the front hair line. Divide the section into 3 equal strands.

2. Cross the right strand UNDER the center strand. So the right strand is now the center strand, and of course the center strand is now the right strand. Then cross the left strand under the center strand, so now the left strand is the center strand.
3.This is were you start grabbing new sections of hair and adding them just like we did in the french braid. So I drop the right strand, pick up a new section of hair and then pick up the strand I dropped, then cross it UNDER the center strand. Do the same thing to the left side, making sure you go UNDER not over. Continue this till you get to the nape of the neck.
This shows me pulling the new picked up hair UNDER the center strand.
4. Once you have picked up the last sections of hair, continue to use the basic underbraid pattern all the way to the ends.
And your done!!. Not that hard and a beautiful braid.

If you want it to look more intricate and complicated just adjust the size of hair you pick up. This time I did pretty big sections, but to make it look like it is super hard just pick up smaller sections. So I hope those were easy directions for ya, let me know if ya have any problems.

Today I was going to do a tutorial on under braiding but we just got our bows that we won from the giveaway that SugarandSpice had a couple of weeks ago the bows are from ChicClips and they are absolutely adorable!! Ryne was so excited she wanted me to put them in right away so I did I also came up with a new style to go with the bows and I will do a tutorial on it later after we are done with the basics.

Basic French Braid

1. Start by combing the hair smooth to ensure a neat braid. You can braid the hair wet or you could leave it dry, wet hair makes for a tighter braid were as dry hair results a softer braid. Part a small front section of the hair and divide it into 3 strands of equal size, you can apply gel or hair spray to control stray ends.
2. Cross the right strand over the center strand. The center strand moves to the right and the right strand is now the center strand.

3. Reach across to the left and cross the left strand over the center strand putting the left strand in the center spot.

4. Pick up a new section of hair on the right side from the hairline to the center part. Combine this with the right strand you already have cross it over the center strand pulling it tight. Pick up a new section of hair on the left side combine with strand you already have and cross it over the center strand pulling tight. Try to keep the picked-up sections consistent. Continue down the head until there is no more hair to pick up.

5. Once you have picked up the last sections of hair, continue with the basic braid pattern on the ends.

Back to Basics

I got to thinking that some of the people checking out my hair blog are experienced with hair and can easily copy the styles while there may be some people who have no clue how to do some of the basic braids and twists and since a lot of the styles I do incorporate these things I decided for the next couple of days I am going back to the basics, I will be doing tutorials on regular french braiding, projected underbraiding, fish bone braiding and a two-strand twist if you are new to my blog and there is something basic you would like to learn that I haven't mentioned please feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you would like to see done. I will be starting with the basics tomorrow.

Criss Cross

This tutorial is for my sis, she wanted to know how to do this criss cross french braid.

1. Ya start by parting the hair into 4 sections, front to back, ear to ear secure each section out of the way like this...

2. Start french braiding one of the front sections, I started with the right braid, ya want to try and braid it at an angle, when you have no more hair to add to the braid in that section then continue as a normal braid it should look like this...once it's long enough to reach the other side continue french braiding into the far left bottom section. After the right side is done do the same thing to the left.
3. When you get this far with the left braid...
4. Tuck it under the right one, then continue the french braid. And then your done.

Back view, I crossed the braids again at the bottom and put this adorable pink polka dot bow that I got from FlowerGoodies on to finish the style. If you wanted to you could stop the french braid at the base of the neck and just curl the ends, this makes for a little more fancy or dressy style.

Pig tail braids

I did this cute style on Ryne a week or so ago I got it from GirlsCurls, today I decided to try it with 2 pony tails instead of 1. So this is the original style.
Here is my pig tail version, sorry I don't have step by step pics. I only had a few pics left on my memory card and I wanted to save them for the end results but it's pretty easy. First ya start by doing a center part all the way down her head. Then on the right side I parted my front section into 3 smaller sections I did it at an angle, you can do it straight if ya want. Secure each section with elastics, braid the 2 outer pony tails, you want to split the middle pony tail and then braid each half, so you should have 4 braids. Then repeat that on the other side.

Once that's done pull the loose hair into a pony tail (l;eave out the braids)secure with an elastic, then separate the pony tail and braid ( I made 5 small braids.) don't braid all the way to the bottom. Then I folded the braids up NOT UNDER and secured with an elastic, so now you should have a little fountain of hair with the braids under. It should look like this, ignore the finished front part. =)
Now that the other braids are secured take the 4 front braids and kinda weave them. On the right side I took the far left braid crossed it over and tucked it under the elastic, then I took the right one and crossed it to the left then I brought the 2 middle braids down on both sides and then secured under the elastic. This is what it should look like. After that your done!!

Twist and shout!

We decided to go simple and quick today. Ryne wanted her hair down so we just did some little twists.

Start by parting the hair however you want( I did a side part). Split the hair into 3 sections. take the first section and split it in to then twist the 2 separately like so.

Then wrap the 2 strands of hair together, I do it pretty tight once you put the elastic in it relaxes a bit this is what it should look like. Pretty easy. Do this to all 3 strands, and continue on the other side.
Once you have both sides done, pull all of the strands loosely around to the back and secure with an elastic. It should look like this. Now if we were going some were then I would have curled the ends.

It's kind of a loose hippy style. It keeps the hair out of the face but still flows really nice.

Keeping, scarfs or headbands in place

My daughter loves to wear headbands, or scarfs in her hair but the usually fall out with in minutes! This style helps keep the headband or scarf in place, while keeping the hair out of her face!

I started by making a part in the front just in front of her ears, then I divided that section into 4 sections. Then I took my little pony tail pulled it up slightly, then stuck the hair under the rubber band creating a little knot or twist, I then split the hair from that twist I left part of it out while I put the other section into the next pony tail, and then did another twist/knot, creating a puff braid. Each time doing this leaving a section of hair out to pull over the scarf later. So this is what it should look like.

Once you have the front done, you put in the scarf or headband. I used a scarf, I tied it on her head then I made a small part in the back and split it into 4 sections, just like the front. Then I took the section of hair I left out put it on top of the scarf and continued to do in the back what I did in the front, doing the little twist/knot and then connecting it to the next section of hair creating a puff braid, with the back I didn't leave and hair out. This is what it should look like when your done.

Once my scarf was in place I untied it and parted a little section of the hair, then I tied the scarf back on. Now you should have a section of hair under the scarf and one on top. I separated them into 4 sections again and the brought them together, this secures the bottom of the scarf so it doesn't slide up. You don't have to do 4 little pony tails, (I did this because later I pulled all the hair up into a pony tail so it looked cuter with more.)

After your done securing the bottom of the scarf, let the rest of the hair fall down and this is the end result! ( I tied the scarf to the side so the ends hung out, just for some extra cuteness!!)

Later in the day we ended up pulling it into a pony tail, leaving the ends of the scarf hanging down it looked super cute. Hopefully ya understood my instructions and I promise I am going to work on having better pictures! I am still pretty new at this but I will get the hang of taking good pictures!!
